Start a New Student Organization at UConn!

Every student organization offers an opportunity for not only fun, but also a meaningful educational experience. With over 400 different student organizations on campus, there are so many creative opportunities to help you get involved, develop your leadership skills, meet new people, and enhance your education. If you and your friends have an interest that is not met by an existing student organization, you can start a new student group!

Forming a new student organization is easy and there is staff in the Involvement Office that can help. Here is a quick checklist of steps to starting your new organization!

Forming your organization: Step-by-Step

Apply Online:

1. Explore the 400 student organizations that already exist at UCONN here. If there is not an existing group similar to the one that you would like to start, name your new student organization and determine its mission.

2. Decide whether your group would qualify as a Tier I or Tier II organization, and complete the appropriate New Organization Application Form online

3. Draft a constitution for your student organization if you submit the Tier II organization form. Observe the constitution requirements as well as a sample constitution here.

Meet with us:

4. After you submit your form, call the Involvement Office @ 486-6588 to schedule an appointment with an Involvement Office Advisor. If you intend to be a Tier II organization, bring your complete constitution to this meeting.

5. Meet with your Involvement Office Advisor to review your completed registration material. If the paperwork is in order then your new student organization will be listed with our office and your status will be considered "forming"!

Get SOLID Trained:

6. Simply complete "SOLID," a required leadership development program for all student organizations. For more information about SOLID check out the website.

7. Once your organization officers attend the necessary SOLID workshops, your organization registration status of "forming" will then change to be finalized as either "Tier I" or "Tier II."
