SOLID Workshop Overviews

TIER-I WORKSHOP(S)

Introductory Workshop (Tier I)

  • Who must attend: Chief Organization Officer* (e.g. President, General Manager, Editor, etc)
  • Content: This workshop provides participants with an overview of risk and financial management, strategies for leading groups effectively, and further information about the benefits assigned to Tier I Organizations. Participants will also learn about how Tier I Organizations can transition to Tier II.

TIER-II WORKSHOP(S)

Leading an Organization (Tier II)

  • Who must attend: Chief Organization Officer** (e.g. President, General Manager, Editor, etc)
  • Content: This workshop provides participants with a background in/an overview of risk management, an explanation of Tier II Organization benefits, strategies for managing the transition of officers from year to year, as well as managing groups of people, suggestions for developing and leading effective groups, strategies for recruiting and retaining members, and explains how to partner with other organizations to plan/fund events.

A Secretary's Role (Tier II)

  • Who must attend: 'Secretaries' or 'Recording Member'**
  • Content: This workshop provides participants with an overview of duties associated with making reports at meetings, organizing votes, developing agendas, maintaining records, and effective correspondence. The workshop will also outline the support services offered by the Department of Student Activities for student organizations.

Sound Financial Management (Tier II)

  • Who must attend: Chief Financial Officer** (e.g. Treasurer, Business Manager, Comptroller, etc)
  • Content: This workshop provides participants with an overview of the financial responsibilities of Tier II organizations, and how these should be managed. This includes financial planning, contracts, reimbursements, equipment inventories, fundraising, co-sponsorship, and making financial reports.

Planning Events (Tier II)

  • Who must attend: Designated Organization Member Responsible for Planned Event
  • Content: The purpose of this workshop is to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to plan and hold effective events. Participants will learn about publicity, fundraising, budgeting, catering, and arranging for talent/speakers to attend their event.

NOTE: Attendance at this workshop is only required for organizations wishing to hold an event (other than regular weekly meetings) at any point during the year.
