Leadership Legacy Experience

Douglas A. Bernstein Legacy Summit

Sunday, January 20, 2008

With much anticipation about the year ahead, the 2008 Legacy Students gathered for the first time on Sunday January 20th at the Nathan Hale Inn and Conference Center for the Douglas A. Bernstein Leadership Legacy Summit. The students, from all across campus, spent the early afternoon getting to know one another and discussing what it means to leave a legacy of leadership. Later in the afternoon our Legacy Students were joined by many of their Faculty/Administrator and Alumni Mentors who took the time to meet with the students and help them begin their journey through the experience. After an evening in the Student Union Gallery attending the 2nd annual kick-off dinner, students gathered back at the hotel for a less-formal session of reflection and sharing led by graduate assistants John Pepin and Robyn Kaplan. Monday gave way to deeper discussions and an exploration of the definition and characteristics of a leader and personal reflection on how each student can enhance their own leadership abilities. The morning session ended by noon and gave students the chance to finish moving back into their residence halls and prepare for the upcoming semester. It seemed to be consensus that the Bernstein Summit was a huge success in bringing the Legacy Students (and their mentors) together for the first time, beginning the process of defining and exploring leadership, and inspiring the 2008 cohort of Legacy Student for bigger and better things in the coming year!
