Leadership Legacy Experience
Strengths Quest
March 16, 2009
Legacy Students recently had the opportunity to discover their primary strengths through a facilitated discussion using StrengthsQuest, Gallup's strengths development program for college-age students, giving them the opportunity to develop based on their strengths rather than their weaknesses. It helps students learn what they do best, then build their lives on those talents. Legacy Students completed a 150 question inventory which determined their top five strengths and, on March 16th, gathered armed with their top strengths and StrengthsQuest books to learn more about the application of their strengths and how their strengths affect their interactions and leadership styles. Rachel Larson, a Career Counselor at UConn and a trained StrengthsQuest facilitator, joined us to offer insight into the students’ strengths. Larson provided the philosophical foundation of StrengthsQuest - focusing on strengths rather than weaknesses. Each student received a personalized assessment detailing how they apply their strengths, which was also complemented by Larson’s in depth knowledge and meaningful group conversation. During the remainder of the semester, students will be invited to apply the StrengthsQuest philosophy, and take advantage of opportunities to display their strengths and leadership abilities.
Legacy Students Akina Warner, Garrett Cottrell, and Sarah Melchoir study their StrengthsQuest results.
