FUTURE PHARMACY Leaders

A collaboration between the School of Pharmacy and the Office of Leadership Programs


FUTURE PHARMACY Learning Objectives:
  • Increase awareness of current issues in pharmaceutical sciences
  • Increase awareness of leadership challenges/opportunities in the field
  • Invite students to explore their individual leadership styles and strengths
  • Enhance interaction outside of class between students and Pharmacy faculty
  • Enhance student overall academic/educational experience within School of Pharmacy
  • Give students the opportunity to explore ways to take an active role in positively influencing the University community and beyond as students and pharmacists
FUTURE PHARMACY Program Structure:
  • Pharmacy students attend events every other week through out the Spring semester. These have included workshops, seminars, and discussions facilitated by Pharmacy Faculty, Phi Lambda Sigma (PLS) Student Members and Leadership Programs Staff.
  • Participants meet with their PLS mentor 1 hr every other week to reflect on their experiences in the program.
  • Students reflect on and write about their experiences in the program
FUTURE PHARMACY Target Audience:
  • Students in their first year of the pharmacy program (P1s, juniors overall) can apply for the program at the end of the Fall Semester to participate in the Spring Semester.

    • Including: Speakers on Nuclear Pharmacy; A Toxicology Lecture; Utah Addiction Lunch & Learn; and a ‘Unity Week’ Lecture from a University of Connecticut Alumni Community Pharmacist

Program Completion:
Students must attend a certain number of the workshops/activities and meet with their PLS mentor throughout the semester. Successful completion results in the awarding of a certificate at the end of the semester and possible academic credit or a possible monetary stipend to underwrite a portion of the cost of attending a national pharmacy meeting in the P2 year (depending on availability of funds).
