FUTURE ACCOUNTING Leaders

...developing tomorrow’s leaders today...

A collaboration between the Accounting Department and the Office of Leadership Programs

In the Fall 2008 semester the Accounting Department and the Office of Leadership programs collaborated to create the FUTURE ACCOUNTING LEADERS program. Building on the success of Professor Larry Gramling’s ACCT 3005, Introduction to the Profession course, this class of 200 junior accounting majors participated in interactive lectures on the topics of impression management, leadership competencies, and ethical decision making in the field.

The objectives of this collaborative approach and these lectures in particular were to:
  • Increase awareness of current issues in the field of accounting
  • Increase awareness of leadership challenges/opportunities in the field
  • Invite students to explore their individual leadership styles, strengths, and potential
  • Enhance students overall academic/educational experience within the Accounting Department
  • Give students the opportunity to explore ways to take an active role in positively influencing the University community and beyond as students and accountants

Additionally, the lectures included the advice and experiences of seasoned professionals currently practicing in the field and working for international and regional firms. The combination of outstanding students, experienced professionals, an outstanding course foundation, and some important topics helped create an active and engaging learning environment for students.
