Workshop Details and Registration

Workshops

Offered over the course of the semester, students will be required to attend seven workshops addressing such topics as value development, personal goal setting, ethical decision making, civic engagement and more. Students must attend at least one from each of the following five categories: Spirit of Inquiry, Pride in the University, Academic and Personal Integrity, Respect and Dignity for all, and Self Reflection. Refer to workshop schedule for exact dates and times of workshops. Using the Workshop Registration Form, participants register for each workshop at least 48 hours prior to the date and time of the workshop. Please see below for workshop descriptions and use the Workshop Registration Form to electronically submit your registration.

  • Everest Expedition

    Presenter: Michael Kodas

    A photojournalist and author of the recently published High Crimes: Mt. Everest in an age of Greed, Kodas, in 2004 and 2006, joined expeditions to Mount Everest to investigate how the big money and big egos in adventure sports are drawing crime and malfeasance to wildernesses in the developing world.

    MythBusters takes a light-hearted look at modern misconceptions and the bizarre claims of Urban Legends. However this series doesn’t just retell the stories… it puts them to the test! Come share an intimate evening full of your questions and insider information about the series with some of its stars.

    This program goes beyond the rules and regulations, and addresses the personal choice concerning alcohol use.

  • I Can’t Believe You Asked That

    Presenter: Kevin Moore

    Ever wondered something about someone of another race, gender or culture but were just too afraid or embarrassed to ask? Nationally recognized diversity advocate Phillip Milano says, go ahead. Ask!

    This workshop will help students explore the meaning and relevance of diversity in their lives and to create awareness and understanding of diversity from a multicultural competence perspective.

  • Sex Signals
    April 21; 7 P.M., Student Union Theater
    Presenter: Needed

    Blending a unique combination of improvisational comedy, education and audience participation, "Sex Signals" provides a provocative, in-your-face look at issues surrounding dating, sex and date rape on college campuses. Through the use of humor, the show explores how mixed messages, gender role stereotypes and unrealistic fantasies contribute to misunderstandings between the sexes. Students are thus engaged in a candid discussion on dating and the realities of date rape as they are challenged to provide solutions that will better improve communications in interpersonal relationships. All of the performers have extensive training in interactive theater and sexual assault education.

  • Leaving Your Legacy

    As leaders we have to keep in mind who we are being role models for. In the “Leaving Your Legacy” workshop we will explore what it means to leave a legacy. Through examining other prominent leaders, we will also look into how you will be remembered for what you do.

  • Facebook of Leadership

    Facebook, MySpace, and other virtual communities have recently become popular places for students to network with each other and show pride in them through their personal profile pages. This workshop will discuss the great ways student leaders can utilize these virtual communities, and show their self pride in a meaningful way.

    To be able to truly reach your leadership potential, it is important to have awareness both yourself and others. This presentation will help you identify your individual strengths and weaknesses as well as help distinguish the strengths, values, joys and motivations of each personality! Begin to learn more about the depths of your personality and become more aware of who you truly are. Find yourself appreciative and understanding of other personalities and begin to work more efficiently within your organization and relationships. This workshop will help you capitalize on your strengths as well as effectively utilize the strengths of those around you while improving upon differences.

  • Funny Money: Responsible investing for College Students
    March 24; 7 P.M., Student Union Theater

    “FUNNY MONEY" is radically changing the lives of fiscally challenged students everywhere. While being extremely informative about REAL money issues, this program will also keep you laughing…all the way to the bank! Combining comedy and audience participation with an exciting multimedia presentation, James teaches the essential skills in earning, spending and saving money properly. He first guides you to financial stability and then takes you to the next level of achieving great wealth and prosperity.
