Leadership ProgramsStudent Leader Alumni ProgramThe UConn Student Union has had a proud history of student leadership, programming, and service to the University of Connecticut campus community. From 1952 to 2002, the Student Union, its student leaders, student organizations, and staff have been an important part of campus life at the University of Connecticut. In May 2002, a new era began for the Student Union. A $47 million, UConn 2000 project, will transform the Union into a state of the art facility and one of the finest student activities centers in the country. The "New U" will open in the Fall 2006.The Student Union/Student Union Alumni Program will recognize the 50-year history of the UConn Student Union and allow Student Union and Student Leader Alumni to re-connect, and also support and enhance the Student Union's program through a fund raising initiative. The Committee of 50A group of Student Union/Student Leader Alumni has joined together to lead this Alumni program on behalf of the UConn Student Union. This group will be called The Committee of 50. "The Committee of 50" is chaired by Ron Loomis (1956-59) and Sherry Colombaro Lawrence (1993-95). Let us know if you would like to join this group. Re-ConnectingThe Committee of 50 is going to try to set up opportunities for former Student Union and student organization leaders to re-connect, relive memories of your college days and return to the campus for alumni events. The goal is to establish a website providing the opportunity to re-connect. There is also plans for alumni events at the Student Union. Student Union Enhancement FundA second goal of the committee is to lead an Annual Fund Raising Drive. Proceeds from this fund raising drive will go toward enhancing the UConn Student Union's programs through the purchase of artwork, enhancing leadership programs, and other enhancements identified by the Student Union staff and the Student Union Board of Governors. The Fund Raising Drive will have two goals:
All former members of the Student Union Board of Governors, alumni student leaders and former Student Union and University staff and faculty are invited to be a part of this exciting campaign.
