Thank you for visiting the Community Outreach website! Below you will find information about service-related programs and opportunities at UConn.


Learning Community for Community Service

First-Year Learning Communities (FYLCs) are small clusters of first-year residents who live, study, and learn together. FYLCs focus on promoting residents´ connections to fellow students, promote student/faculty interaction in and outside of the classroom, and create a supportive environment based on a mutual interest or academic major. (Learning Communities)

The Community Service LC will explore topics related to civic engagement, leadership, community, and diversity. Students will have the opportunity to choose service projects from a plethora of areas including mentoring and tutoring to soup kitchens and working with the elderly. Students will live in the participate in the same residence hall and be enrolled in a one-credit First-Year Experience course (INTD 182) and a four-credit English 110 course. Spring semester students will enroll in Sociology 107W. The Community Service FYLC course will focus on supporting your college transition and assist you to get engaged in service while at UConn. The Community Service FYLC is a collaboration of Community Outreach, First Year Programs, and the Department of Residential Life.

Community Service Programs

Community Outreach runs over 30 programs and works with nearly 100 different community agencies. There are community service opportunities available to meet the interests and availability of any student! We even provide transportation to and from service sites!

Community Service Courses

Community Outreach professional and student staff offer 1-credit interdisciplinary course (INTD) that assists students with getting involved with service while at UConn.

Current course offering:

  • Focus on Community Service - INTD 182.30 (Class #8194)
    Instructor: Matt Farley
    Are you interested in how community service works at UCONN? INTD 182.30 will provide you with an opportunity to learn about community service by getting involved. As part of this class you will help link students to local community service projects to help serve the greater community. No experience with community service is required, just a willingness to get involved and help others.
