Student Activities BlogsMiguel AlmodovarWOW...So, this summer I spent most of my time planning for two days. August 23rd and August, 24th, the Block Party and Hip Hop Comedy Jam. First off, I planned the Block Party. From calling vendors and agents to laying out the inflatables to assigning jobs to all the SUBOGer’s, it was a lot more work than I ever imagined. That’s not to say that it wasn’t a ton of fun! First of all, I got to wear a walkie-talkie at the Block Party, which is the coolest. My favorite part was Flippen’ Out, the trampoline acrobats. They added so much to the Block Party, which was great before but I think the addition of a live show besides music was great. Over all I think those who came had a good time, and there was a good mix of students there, not only freshmen but lots of upperclassmen passed through too.
Then there was the the Hip Hop Comedy Show, I got to introduce the comedians at the Hip Hop Comedy Show, leading 5,500 kids in the UConn Huskies Cheer was something I’ll remember for the rest of my life. The show went so well I got to meet and hang out with Ardie Fuqua, Loni Love and Reggie McFadden. The boys were great but my favorite was Loni Love. I’ve seen her on VH-1 and Chelsea Lately and it was so great to get to see what kind of person she was really. Believe it or not she’s actually kind of shy and reserved in person, a huge departure from her TV personality. But the best part of meeting her was she thought I was cute and coming from her that’s quite a complement! Husky WOW weekend was a great start to the SUBOG year! We’ve already had our first Husky Roadshow where we used more buses than ever to transport students to the blowout football game against Hofstra!!! Our fall line up is packed with Jim Gaffingan, Ben Folds, Homecoming, Daniel Tosh, and tons of free giveaways, so get excited!!!!
