Student Activities BlogsMiguel AlmodovarThe first month of schoolSo, I’ll start off with the best news ever! I am done studying for the LSAT’s!!! I’ve been studying pretty much every day since June and I just took them September 26th! The only way to describe my mood is elated. For those who don’t know the LSAT is the test you have to take to get into law school. It’s a very intense test it lasts about 4 hours, in my case I took the test from 8:30 in the morning until 1:15 in the afternoon in Monteith. It was nice taking the test on campus since I could sleep in a bit (until 7:30) and didn’t have to waste any time searching for the building. Others didn’t have it so easy. Anyone who was awake at that hour on Saturday probably noticed a multitude of lost looking people clutching clear plastic bags. I actually ended up escorting a very lost Quinnipiac student to Monteith after I found her staring at one of those big campus maps by Gampel. But back to the point, I’m going to get my scores back within two weeks and I’m really excited about it. Also now that I am not going to be studying for the LSAT anymore I am going to have more time to commit to SUBOG and to Community Outreach which I’m very excited about.
Once I have my scores I’m going to have a better grasp on which law schools I can apply for, I think I’m in good shape for UConn Law and I’m looking into Northeastern as well. As for schools in D.C., I really have to do some more research before I know which school is right for me. But I will be starting the application process now so that should be interesting. Another exciting bit of news is that SUBOG has it’s a new mission for the year. This year is the YEAR OF CREATIVITY! The idea for this came about because at SUBOG we are very good at putting on events. However, sometimes we get really good at putting on the same events and using the same methods to publicize the events. I was thinking of a way to inspire creativity in the board when I remembered how Kevin Fahey had inspired us last year to form stronger committees. He simply named the year “The Year of the Committee” and we focused our efforts on building strong committees. It was a resounding success. We are going to look for creative ways to put on exciting events for students. After all we have the resources to do great things and I think that adding some extra creative energy into that mix will make our already great programs outstanding.
Having said this, we are already off to a great start with our programming. We held the concert for causes on September, 20th, it was an all day concert featuring local bands and with Anberlin as the headlining act. The concert was held out on the SU Mall and on and off campus groups were invited to set up tables promoting their causes. This was the first time SUBOG has done something like this and it was a huge success, everyone had a really good time. We also have a new Comedy backdrop this semester; it really gives the SU theatre the ambience of an underground comedy club. (I’m not going to put a picture of it up so you’ll just have to go to a comedy show if you want to the backdrop.) If these are just two examples of the many creative ideas and programs SUBOG has going this year. If September is any indication of how the year is going to be this year’s board is going to be the best I’ve seen! |
